The French Ambassador to Bulgaria Philippe Autie will discuss Europe and the challenges in front of the common currency of the Eurozone with students from the American University in Bulgaria. The lecture will take place on Wednesday, 25 January 2012 at 7:15 PM in the “Balkanski” Academic Center on Skaptopara Campus. This is the second lecture, jointly organized by AUBG and the “Balkanski-Panitza” Institute for Advanced Studies.
Dimitar Bechev opened the series of lectures last week. He talked about the crisis in Europe and the possible ways out of it. Bechev emphasized on the recent outbreak of the so-called euro-skepticism. According to him, Europe is currently suffering not only from unresolved economic problems, but also from the lack of strong political center and cultural ties. “Most importantly, there has to be solidarity between the member countries”, Professor Bechev said. In his opinion, the current policies of major cuts in expenditures should not be viewed as a universal cure for a better future. Professor Bechev added that the crisis will force Europe to make the changes, needed to adjust itself to the ever-changing economic and political world. He finished the talk with optimism: “Stronger and united we will survive”.
